    hi all

looking at a 2005 Volvo s80 and at start up there are 2 error messages that come up " Parking Assist Service Required!" and " Anti-Skid Service Required " . These messages can be removed by pressing on the button and the yellow triangle goes away until the next time the car is started. The current owner says the car passed the last NCT with these messages showing but before buying it i want to be sure this is the case . The next NCT due in OCT 2022.

    Just wondering

    1. this will these messages be seen as an NCT fail
    2. how do i go about fixing these problems

    thanks in advance

    Brendan

It will fail with the Anti Skid Service Required, my 2007 S60 did last year despite brake performance being good and no impact to ABS from the warning message. Surprised the error can be removed by pressing the button on the stalk, does that not just remove the text message but still leave the little triangle with the skid mark? The cause of my fault was a bad segment in the clock spring or steering wheel angle sensor which is the most common cause but it could also be a number of other sensors such as yam sensor, abs sensor etc.

Never had parking assist or got that error so can't help on that.

    hi Dr-Colossus,

thanks for the quick reply , yes pressing the button removes the yellow triangle as far as i remember ( it was a shortish drive) didnt notice the skid signal to be honest. Was the clock spring expensive to get replaced and how was it diagnosed ?.

    thank in advance

Mustn't be a permanent error so and more of a warning. With mine I can't clear the error with a generic ODBC scanner and no faults show but I can reset and clear it by locking the steering from side to side and then centering it again, turning off the engine and then driving in a straight line for a few hundred meters. Mine can stay fault free until I turn the car to the left hard, usually when parking in ever tightening spaces.

A new steering wheel censor is something like 200-300 I think but I plan to try one from a breakers yard at some stage. For the last NCT re-test I had it reset and since the tester didn't have to make any sharp left turns it didn't reactivate so I got the pass for another year.

If you could track down someone with Vida Dice, you might get more insight - it'll give diagnostic advice and repair instructions.

They are out to fail you.

I've a car with yellow warning light displayed. Mechanic told me it's nothing to worry about. I m driving it until it stops working

What is the warning for? There are very few lights that are nothing to worry about

    Oxygen sensor.

If its the front one it's definitely something to worry about, the rear one less so but still needs fixing!

How do you know when another code pops up if the engine light is always on?
