Bringing Firearms From NI To ROI - Moderator Question

I have a friend who is bringing firearms down from the North and would like to ask anyone who has been in the same situation or anyone that knows, what is the story with bringing down a rifle with a moderator? There is no mention of it on the non-resident application: https://www.garda.ie/en/about-us/online-services/firearms-licensing/non-resident-form-amended-16-1-13.pdf

I can't find any info on this. This is covered on the PSNI website for bringing mods into NI, but I cannot find anything similar on the Garda or Justice website. Is it a case of having it legally in NI that he is allowed to bring it down? If anyone can provide any info I would appreciate it a lot.

    Thanks,

It doesn't matter what he has legally in NI, once in the Rep. he must be licensed for it, that includes the moderator.

So he applies for the firearms and the moderator. A lot of people attach a cover note on the reasons they require a moderator.

Thanks for the response. So, he will just have to attach a letter with the application then asking for the mod? I just think it's funny how it doesn't mention moderators on the non-resident application at all.

A mod is classed as a firearm. So it would go in the same section as the rifle under “other”.

So, two applications? Or just fit it all in the one? I think he is going to put it in the one with the letter as mentioned above.

I haven’t don’t it yet. But i’d make one application, tick two boxes, and include a letter cover the intention.
