Digging out for the patio we found the standard earth box:

Is the best thing to do just bury it under the 804 again?

No idea, but I think I'd make it accessible through the patio. I would put something like a drain access cover over it level with the patio, but that's just me.

Yes I put concrete patio down and left it accessible with standard 4" drain access cover.

Really good idea! I had decided to bury it until I read this! With the size of the box, I think a 6" drain access cover with a square shaft will work perfectly for ours. Thanks!!

My local place had only grill covers for small drain covers rather than a solid cover. They suggested sourcing a stop tap cover.

More expensive than I was hoping for €57 with screwfix but does not raise either (we need 15-20cm raise): https://www.screwfix.ie/p/floplast-push-fit-square-mini-access-chamber-cover-frame-300mm/12847

Take the cover off the existing earth box and get one of these

then cut the bottom out of the new one and attach it to the existing box.

If you take the cover off you'll see it's just a wire wrapped around a metal pole. Prize the pole up so the box sits level with the finished patio, job done.

Thanks for that. I'd prefer not to have this greenbox exposed on the patio. My local supplier has a 6" black caplink, open with a screwdriver and will fit over a standard 4" pipe, so I am thinking that...

Another option then is to extend the wire and bang the pole in somewhere else

    Just cover it..

Not sure why the electrician is baulking at extending it, we are cutting path anyway so box could be moved there :-( Looks like a 4" pipe is not wide enough to allow access to open up box anyway, so it looks like my options are:

    1. Cover it
    2. Use 12" drain cover and riser (about)
    3. Move to path....

Swinging back to #1 now and knowing what tile it's under......

In reality the only reason for not burying it is if you were selling and a surveyor wanted to see one was installed.

No idea why your electrician won't move it either, it's hardly that technical!

This is all the earth rod is

    Untitled Image

the only issue I know is that sometimes if the ground is full of rubble, large stones or close to bed rock then can be a bugger to drive into the ground. I sometimes pre drill a 15mm hole with and SDS drill but if the drill isn't powerful enough you can destroy it doing that.

That looks fancy, i've only ever come across a bit of re-bar!

Ah not really it needs to be accessible for electrical testing/inspection

I'd be thinking to relocate completely if possible
