the majority of this stuff is off standard proprietary stuff from obscure chinese manufacturers and it is not servicable or maintaiable. Once it is giving trouble, it has had it and is for the scrap skip

This isnt true. The only thing obscure and proprietary could be the display/controller and even those can be repaired in a lot of cases
