    Hey all,

My wife and I will be in New York for a week from 7th July. We'd like to see a Broadway musical and are looking for recommendations please and the best place to buy tickets.

    Cheers in advance!

People will tell you to go to TKTS on Times Square but I'll direct you you www.broadwaybox.com for pre-bookable discounted tickets. Playbill.com often have good offers too but BB are usually the best.

As for what to see, what are you interested in? Traditional musicals, Disney, modern etc? My pick would be Company as I love that show but it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Thanks for the feedback Caranica. Cheers for the websites. I'll check them out! We really enjoyed Chicago, Hairspray etc. so that's the kind of thing we are interested in.

It's all about what you personally like:

I'm there in September and I've got Hadestown, Little Shop of Horrors, A Strange Loop, Paradise Square and Death of a Salesman lined up so far.

If you only have one night free, Hamilton is an absolute belter. If you have kids, The Lion King or Wicked. Old reliables like Phantom and Chicago always have tickets available.

Broadway.com is a starting place to see everything that is running, then you can look around for ticket prices once you've decided.

Excited for you though! You'll have a great time.

Good luck getting tickets to Hamilton!

Anything by Disney is always well worth seeing. My current obsession is Six, though.

Yeah had a look for Hamilton tickets but they're like hens teeth.

Broadway box an the todaytix app are the best places to grab tickets, the TKTS booth is not great unless there's no crowd.

Aside from your big ticket shows (Hamilton, dear Evan Hansen, the Disney's) you can't go wrong with come from away, funny girl or little shop of horrors. I haven't seen six but the soundtrack is a belter.

You won't get cheap Hamilton tickets but it's a lot easier to get tickets than it was 5 years ago.

Speaking of SIX (which is brilliant!!), they're doing a filming of this at the Vaudeville at the end of the month, ballot for the tickets is open this Friday 10am if you're interested.

I'd be looking at the shows that aren't in London or on UK/Ireland tours (Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, Wicked, Lion King and Six all are). Broadway tickets are considerably more expensive than West End.

SIX is a different animal on Broadway to the West End/touring productions, imo. It's just slicker, funnier and a bit more lively. All completely subjective, obvs!

Brilliant feedback thanks all, never even heard of SIX, will take a look at these shows and see what they are like! Broadwaybox seems to be the way to go based on popular opinion here.

Thanks again for the advice. Just an update for all. We had a great time in NYC and went to see 'Six'. Unfortunately it was a poor show. We were looking for a musical but it was just a concert featuring 6 women dancing to various songs. There is no story at all. No set changes, barely any costume changes. It would probably be ideal for teenagers or young kids but for anyone else I would not recommend it. Obviously this is only our opinion, both in our 40s as I appreciate some people recommended it here.
