Ford focus ...is this a safety feature.

I've a 2015 focus. I was sitting in the car last night waiting for the child to finish their sport.

I was there for an hour, driver window cracked open door locked (not feeling well so having abit of a snooze) ...keys out of ignition.

Noticed that the door was unlocked , so locked it again (just assumed I hadn't actually locked it).

Again noticed it was unlocked. Locked it again and timed it ...it unlocked after 2-3 mins.

Tried locking it again with the key fob and it unlocked after 5 mins.

I've never noticed this before. Though I'd usually sit in the passenger seat with the toddler...I wouldn't be hanging around in the car all that often.

Checked the car doors this morning and all locked.

Is it a safety feature or does the car have gremlins that need fixing.

Just tested this out with my focus (152 reg, 4dr saloon) and the doors remain locked. Sat in drivers seat, key out of ignition, window open slightly, locked via button on drivers door. Didn't unlock after 5mins. Same with the fob.

Not sure if what you're experiencing is normal as there's nothing in the manual that mentions this behaviour of self-unlocking after a few mins.

OP you could try resetting the ECU if it bothers you. Leave the battery off overnight. Downside is the car will drive a bit strange until its "learnt" how to drive again.

    Well that's not good 🙈

I thought it might be something to do with a child accidentally locking themselves in.

I hadn't noticed it previously....I've another waiting in the car event tomorrow I'll see what happens.

    Christ that sounds complicated.

It doesn't bother me once the car remains locked when it's supposed to...which it seems to be doing.

As I said never noticed it before but was worried that this might be the start of a bigger problem.

I've a lock thing I'm sort of guessing at on my own 2010 Focus. Whenever I drive off once I reach a certain speed I hear a "dink" noise from the boot lock area. I'm guessing the boot auto locks when the car is moving but don't know for sure.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Had you the keys in a jeans pocket? Sometimes the buttons can get pressed inadvertently

No I had them on the passenger seat when I noticed the door opened, then I had them on my lap.

I was conscious of that happening.

This may or may not be relevant?

Ok I could just let this thread die but I'll admit my shame.

It's actually just the light on the lock symbol that goes out the locks aren't disengaging at all.

So thank you to all who replied.
