iPhone 11, less than 2.5 years old. Noticed it wasn’t holding charge the past few weeks, checked battery health and it’s at 79%.

I got on to Apple and they advised €75 for a new battery.

just wondering if anyone else who had the same issue got a free battery replacement? If so how did you go about it?

Batteries degrade, it happens. Same with all mobile devices or equipment with batteries.

Mobile phone batteries degrade and notably so after 500 charge cycles.

A 2.5yr old iPhone would have seen approx 1000 cycles. It's the nature of the technology, i'd be very surprised if you gain even a token GWG from Apple towards cost of a new battery.

I've seen it mentioned several times recently - never charge a Li-Ion battery above 80%. The battery gets damaged once you go above 80%. Now there will be times when you plan on being away for a day or two or you'll be on the road doing heavy calls and data and you absolutely need all the capacity that you can stuff into the device so you have to charge it to 100% - fair enough. But if your battery typically can manage to get you through the day starting at 80%, keep that as your target charge level.

Batteries don’t like extremes. That means avoiding things that generate lots of heat, deep discharging, and aggressive fast charging. Equally keeping it constantly plugged in will age the battery. iOS has a feature where it only charges your battery to 80% overnight and then tops it off just before you wake up. It’s not strictly true but trying to keep your battery between 80 and 20% charge is a good way to keep it in good condition.

My launch 11Pro is still reporting 100% battery health. It’s probably less than that. They did some recalibration thing a while back in ios14 which probably messed it up, but it’ll go happily all day.

Thats not a bad price for a new battery using professional tools to ensure the water resistance afterwards.
