Advice on painting garden statues please

Hi,

I have two cement garden statues and I would like to paint them, the thing is I don't know where to start, primers? stabelizers? What do I need to do to prepare them for painting.

Depends, are they knoms or granet type ( have they lots of colour) most you can just water the paint as an under coat .lasts a few years.if it's stone type you can use a sealer . Depends.

Alternatively give them a coat of natural yogurt a few times and they will looks aged and interesting in no time.

That's a poured concrete statue - don't clean it with a power-hose anyway!

You could try get a headstone cleaner (HG, the brand, do one) and following the instructions there. They are mild but powerful enough.

Oh, I've already used the powerhose on it, thanks for the link I never thought of cleaning it with that. I'd like to paint it an off-white, have you any idea what Primer, Sealer or paint I should use

For something like that I would definitely go for weathering instead of painting. If you paint it it might look like you're trying to pass a mass-produced cement sculpture off as alabaster. To me, this always feels like those rows of fake books you sometimes see used to make a cafe look cozily 'bookish.' Also, when the white paint starts to peel it looks truly awful.

Better to do the job with the yoghurt (and, if you can get it, a tiny bit of cow, horse or sheep dung).
