Stanley oil range part broke

Can anyone tell me what this little black knob is that came off this Stanley oil range?
it was at the very bottom of the range and got a knock with the hoover and came off.
im worried now it’s a very important part..
any advice much appreciated.

the Stanley is roughly 20 years old

It looks like a high temperature trip reset button, but I don't work on those. Give your service guy a call and he'll advise you if that's what it is and what to do about it.
