Timing Belt Issue

Hello everyone

looking for a bit of advise from any mechanics on here. My car, a 2017 Skoda Octavia 1.0 TSI, recently underwent a timing belt change from a main Skoda dealer due to the fact it is 5 years old. Booked it in that morning, picked it up late that afternoon. When driving home I noticed a shake on initial start up, and when slowing down it would shake between 1000-1200 revs before settling at around 1000 revs.

I called the garage and explained what was happening, the said drop it back in and they’ll take a look. 5 days later it is still in the garage and they have not resolved the issue despite changing leads, spark plugs and another timing belt was put on.

The car has only 27,000 kms on the clock, was bought brand new from the same garage and has a full service history from the main dealer also.

can anyone offer any advise or ideas as to what it might be ?

What were you thinking carrying that age of a car to a main dealer anyway. They don’t want to be working on vintage cars.

I got a good price from the main dealer which would not have been much cheaper from an independent.

They may have disturbed something like a vacuum pipe or sensor during the work. Something like a cam position sensor although I think that would result in poor starting rather than lumpy running.

A main dealer should be easily able to diagnose this without just replacing parts until they stumble on the right one.

Are you feeling ok . The op did right thing taking car to main dealer for major sevice item like timing belt plus main dealer are usually well priced for timing belt change and you have warranty . pictures if op took that to other garage it could be a nightmare trying to get them to fix it.

Personally I find it disgusting your comments you must be a miserable man trying to make yourself feel better saying a car of that vintage especially when I bet you can't even afford a Bag of crisps yourself

I'm no expert but 27,000 km seems very soon to change a timing belt.

My own car is 2011 with 120,000 km and is now only due a change of timing belt which like you I'll be taking to the main dealer.

There's also a time limit with some timing belts, it could be every 6 years or 120,000km which ever comes first

Got a call from the garage to pick up the car and that it was all sorted, they put another new timing belt on it.

it’s not all sorted though. The car is still shaking when revs hit about 1500 before settling. Back with them in the morning.

Could it be mistimed? Perhaps the belt is a tooth out or something.

I definitely would not be letting it go anyway but it sounds like the garage are genuinely trying to fix the problem.

I have a 2017 Dacia (105k on the clock). Just got timing belt and water pump changed last week with local group of mechanics. They are all Eastern European and have a brilliant reputation locally, you have to book 2 weeks ahead to get them. They have also service my car 3 times at this stage. €450 for timing belt /water pump replacement, hard to beat. I'd never have considered getting timing belt change at just 27K??

Yeah, sounds like it, but its just frustrating after getting it back and they say its fixed, when its clearly not. The engine is shaking like a **** dog when idle.
