Is it really a requirement to attend a jury summons can anyone tell me, the letter nowhere states you must attend, but also lists a number of fines which come across very threatening and forceful to attend

I got a doctors note, it was a genuine reason / condition.

Tell them that you believe prison to be inhumane and you could never find someone guilty, knowing that your actions will send them to jail. You will get a letter back saying that you are excused.

Irish courts don't really do the whole "prison" thing. Unless the most horrific of crimes, a suspended sentence is the order of the day.

Well yeah they do. I'm not sure if your comment is tongue in cheek or not. There is an argument that small crimes don't get a prison sentence however any crime requiring a jury will end up with a jail sentence if found guilty. The junkie repeat mugger or burglar with 100 previous conversations not likely to be in front of a jury

To answer the OP. Yes. It is a legal requirement to attend, unless specifically excused by the court.

Just go to jury selection and look a bit mental, you won't be picked.
