Lando Calrissian (Disney+)

SPOILER WARNING - the above article discusses upcoming shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, etc. and has photos.

Kennedy makes a comment in the article about “lessons learned along the way” regarding the Solo movie. It seems this is a response to being asked about recasting “iconic roles”.

So this must mean that the Lando Calrissian Disney+ series isn’t using Donald Glover? And that Billy Dee Williams is the star?

Temuera Morrison was 60 playing Boba Fett and his age showed. Billy Dee Williams is 85. not a hope he stars.

Morrison is more than able for the part. Only issue with his age is that it doesn’t match the continuity of the character.

I wouldn’t have considered Williams age as a problem as Lando would most likely be more about con jobs than fighting - a bigger problem is the fact that he can barely walk. Got a back injury on a stupid dance show.

So then based on Kennedy’s comment, the Lando series is not going ahead?

Morrison was in terrible shape for Boba. he wasn't physically able for the role. Luckily he had fennec who is oddly enough not that much younger but is in much better shape. I can't read the article because it contains spoilers.

The 2018 movie Solo explored Han Solo’s younger years, with Alden Ehrenreich taking on the role of the smuggler originated by Harrison Ford. The film has its admirers, but it made less at the box office than any other live-action Star Wars movie. Solo’s swagger may be too singular for another actor to replicate. “There should be moments along the way when you learn things,” says Kennedy. “Now it does seem so abundantly clear that we can’t do that.”

It is annoying that the don’t show is the full text of what she was asked and what she said.

However it does seem to be about recasting the OT gang and if so then the Lando series is going to happen.

Ehrenreich did a great job and I’d love to see more of young Solo and Chewbacca.

I’m also fine with the others being recast if it means we get stories about them.

For the life of me I can’t figure out why there isn’t an animated Luke Skywalker series starting with the evacuation of Yavin IV up the arrival at Hoth and then another post-RotJ series.

I honestly didn't think the Solo movie was that bad. I have no issue with the recasting of Lando. all the interesting stories pre-date the time of the original trilogy so they need a younger actor. Glover is the right age for the role. a series with Billy Dee just wouldn't work for me.

I loved Solo and I want more movies and a Disney+ show.

I’m all for Donald Glover putting on the capes again but surely Kennedy here is saying that Lando project isn’t happening.

Unless Lando isn’t “iconic” enough ?

Don't want to click on link for spoilers but were they not planning on Glover for Lando in the series?

I know he's hotter than all hell right now but thought they would have gone with him. Maybe he's just too busy with all his diverse projects...... stupidly talented man. 😀 I thought Solo was poor enough (It's the ONLY Star Wars movie I didn't see in the cinema. I even saw the ewok TV movies when they were released in the cinema centuries ago). But I thought Glover was great in it. Had the perfect swagger.

When did disney announce a lando series on disney+

I don’t think either Williams or Glover have been mentioned by anyone at Lucasfilm which is why there was speculation as to which era the show would be.

Glover was evasive about when Jimmy Kimmel asked but it was more like “I’m so busy” than trying not to say anything.

Both Glover and Erhenrich were great in the pats and the relationship between Han and Chewie was superior to anything we have been shown before.

Regardless of opinion though if Kennedy is saying that “iconic roles” shouldn’t be recast then it must also apply to Lando - unless she thinks Lando isn’t iconic.

It always comes across as BS when the interview involves promoting the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. McGregor is a recast.

I have liked the current shows/looking forward to upcoming shows to various degrees. Liked The Mandalorian. Thought Boba Fett was poor. Am looking forward to Obi-Wan, Ashoka and Andor but personally I don't want to see another show revolving around characters from the movies or within the same timezone(s). Give us something 1000 years before. Or hundreds of years after. Still have the Jedi and Sith (Or variations). But don't involve Skywalkers, Solos, Calrissians, Organas.

I know I am going against the grain (and it's not the focus of this thread) but I actually liked The Last Jedi. I liked how it opened up the story in that Rey was just a random person. Not a skywalker, not a ...... sigh.... Palpatine....(Of course we know how that went). Continuing to revolve around the same people makes the whole thing feel small.

I understand the appeal to producers/showrunners: You have a known, safe anchor-point to attract audiences but give us a cop show 500 years after RotJ. Give us a gangster drama 1000 years before ANH. I know these are coming but you KNOW there will be some references (There will be some Organa or Skywalker or Kenobi ancestor in there somewhere) but how about not.

The Sequels are awful but there are some good things in there and I like how Johnson went against the usual way of things.

I'm very happy with a bunch of shows set post-RotJ where they can lead up to a big crossover event but I too want other shows like you described.

A Star Wars cop show would be great - like a planet hopping Hawaii 5-0 - or set on Coruscant in the aftermath of there a line Wars (something like Blade Runner.)

Turning back then clock to something I. The last would also be good. They also have to make the technology more primitive the further back they go. I never got into the Ild Republic games becasue the costumes, armour, weapons and ships are all the same as the “present day”.

There is a show about the Sith (I think) coming next years. Set at the end of the High Republic.
