    Anyone else's channels gone today?

I have 3 Sony TV's with built in tuners and nothing on any of them. 😱

No, I didn't want to wipe all my favourites just yet.

I did however connect up one of my old sky boxes and I'm getting no signal message on the screen.

The sat dish wouldn't have moved as I've extra brackets and bolts on it and it's rock solid so I assume it's the lnb.

Some of the UK channels like Dave, Challenge etc. have been a bit jittery on and off with a while.

BBC's and ITv's have been perfect and then nothing at all today.

Would that sound like an lnb issue?

    I've ordered one anyway. 🤞

Any trees in the way, leaves are out now. Had this before when one day it worked and next day gone. My maple tree had gone mad

No, it's got a clear path.

Up on the chimney nice and high too.

    water ingression?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,606 ✭✭✭✭blade1

Maybe, I've to get a loan of a roof ladder to check.

I'll wait until the new lnb comes and sort it hopefully in the one go.

    Should be here on Wednesday.

Any other feed into the house from the LNB to check it's condition?

Also check the cable connectors for security and condition.

Only the ones that are in use.

Turn on TV this morning and all channels on all TV's working perfectly 😳

Check the signal levels on TVs meters. Low or mid level signals would indicate an issue.

Fault with all TVs would point to the LNB. Physically check the plastic cover on the LNB feedhorn, they can crack over time and allow moisture ingress.

What has a query about loosing channels on android TV's that it is posted in a thread for NEW CHANNELS! It should have a thread all on its own.

This thread should now be renamed LOST CHANNELS. How do I stop getting emails on this thread, driving me nuts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,526 ✭✭✭stanley1

I disagree, not that many posts on it anyway.

It kinda got derailed for a while. Perhaps one of the mods could move the irrelevant posts to their own thread.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,606 ✭✭✭✭blade1

Because when I did a search for lost channels it brought up several posts about FTA channels.

I clicked on one of them posts as I t seemed the nearest to some channels missing.

Didn't even notice what the thread was titled.

It seems you're more bothered with the notifications than the post content.

I doubt you'd be any less cranky if you were getting loads of notifications about people asking about new channels.

Please mods move if ye can as I didn't realize how easy it is to drive some people nuts.

This was happening to me very intermittently a few years back. It got quite annoying and was very random.

Checked all the connections, wiring, etc but there was no issues at all.

Then one morning was out walking, happened to look up at our dish and there perched on the LNB arm was a crow basking in the sunshine!!!

Then it occurred to me that the signal loss used to happen in the mornings when the sun was hitting the front of the house where the dish is facing.

It happened a few times after and I went out and checked the dish and there was the crow sunbathing again.

A quick shout or loud noise and he flew away, problem solved!!

This mightn't be your problem but it's worth a check

Yeah a few crows hang around the chimney alright but don't seem to ever interfere with the signal.

I had a complete blank out for 24hrs.

Could be a sign your cable is on the way out... Your situation was happening to my father on and off for a while, he'd have a perfect week, then a day with no signal, then 2 weeks perfect etc then one weekend it was flat gone and didnt come back, I assumed the dish had slipped a bit and had finally misaligned, so I headed down with my satfinder to retune it, got there and plugged in the satfinder to the lnb out at the dish, no lights, no screeching, there was no power in the cable, plugged the satfinder straight into the back of the Ariva in the living room and it lit up and started making noise.

So I just replaced the whole satellite cable which was no small job with his awkward setup and it was all back to normal and perfect since.

I have 3 cables going to 3 different TVs though.

Surely 3 going blank at the same time would probably lean more to the lnb being the culprit.

Oh right that would make more sense.

Is it a big job to swap out an LNB by the way? My parents one is in some state.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,606 ✭✭✭✭blade1

No. As long as the one you are putting in is the same as the one you take out.

Even if it is different there's an adaptor that can be got.

Basically clips out and just thread in the new cable/cables.

This is the one I ordered

New lnb arrived so ready to tackle the job.

On inspection of the old lnb there was a crack on it

Also while I was up there I gave the dish a spray paint.

Change the lnb and spray paint was a 20 minute job in total.

    Happy days 😁

Literally just plug and play, no need for a rescan? Might just do our one before it goes so I'm not wondering if it's an lnb or a misalignment next time...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,606 ✭✭✭✭blade1

    Yes plug and play.

There's just a plastic lug holding in the old one that you pop out or break off.

There's a new one provided with your new lnb.

Just make sure to pull down the weather shield apron thingy on the new one after connecting your cables.

    Piece of cake.

It was raining the night before mine went off so water must have got in the crack.

I assume it dried out a bit as the channels came back on.

    For a 20 quid fix it's a no brainer.
