DIY Kitchen Island Table on wheels

I'm mulling over embarking on a project to make a kitchen island/high counter on wheels, like this:

But I've never worked with pipe before so am prolly out of my depth.

Where would I find galvanised 1/2" steel pipe?

Is it possible to buy similar pipe and then have the cut and threaded at a metal fabricators?

Electrical conduit tube. You'd get it in the likes of screwfix.

1/2 inch is 13mm which sounds thin to me for this application.

Don't use electrical conduit,

even the 25mm will be weak and you'll have to buy the threading tools.

Heatmerchants,ie do iron pipes, but you will need to cut and thread them yourself.

Bear in mind 1/2" pipe outside is over 20mm , 3/4" is 27mm , and 1" is 33mm and so on.

The answer lays in what size connectors you can get. Pick a pipe size personally I'd go with something like the 25mm conduit from screwfix but before you buy anything check you can get joiners that will fit 25mm pipe. Looking around I can't find too many fittings to go with that so maybe find suitable fittings then find the pipe to go with it. I'd be looking for someone in Ireland that did this sort of thing https://www.pipeworksuppliers.co.uk/collections/galvanised-handrail - galvanised handrail fittings.

Edit> Looking at that type of fitting I'd go with pipe with a 33.7mm outside diameter which is the same size as the fittings suggested by GalwayMan74

If the legs are joined at floor level, think of a box framework then you could use much thinner pipe as having no long legs would improve the strength.

Anyway thats made with 1/2 inch pipe and if the scale looks good to you then stick to that design 1/2 inch is fine. The only bit I'd want to checkout before spending too much money is that you can get the casters for it. I'm not sure I like the tin foil bodge to attach them?

The reason 1/2 inch is OK is because the leg bits that stick down below the leg joints aren't very long so they there won't be too much leverage on them. Also that is done in water pipe not conduit.

You would need to buy or rent a threading tool but you might find a friendly plumber who'd do that for you.

If you were prepared to modify the design and have a different size worktop then you can get most if not all those fittings easily online

Any plumbers merchants will have the joints and the flanges - very cheap couple of euro each but all needed are also on Amazon.

Only issue I see is that coming from different suppliers and being sold for different purposes (plumbing/decorative) the pipe and fittings might have a slightly different finish.

If you wanted a different size top and use standard pre threaded parts then it would be possible to modify the design by doing away with the long pipe by using a different bracing methods.

Use the pipe suggested in the link. Half inch is plenty of strength. The link tells you exactly what you need. They are pipe fittings, not conduit. Really commonly used for DIY furniture (Google for ideas)

You don't need to buy plain pipe and thread it your self. Just use what they used, pre-threaded lengths. They're called nipples btw. Normally they are back to back threads, but extended nipples have a length between them. Can get them from the below.

she used 8" and 10", which is 200mm and 250mm. You might struggle to get 36" (900mm) But you could just join two 400-500mm pieces to get to 800-1000mm. Female socket to join below.
