    Hi all,

Just out of curiosity: did anyone come across golden retrievers American line in Ireland? Obviously IKC registered etc. we have a huge problem finding any in Ireland and currently thinking of importing one. Thanks

Did you try contacting one of the breed clubs to ask them? If not, try emailing or calling the secretaries. They’re very helpful, particularly the All Ireland Golden Retriever Club (http://www.aigrc.com/). You may be having difficulty finding them as top line litters are rarely advertised publicly - breeders will have long waiting lists so don’t need to. The breed club can advise you of any waiting lists or breeders who may have a litter soon (but you may have to wait a while, obviously).

🤔 By American lines do you mean a dog that’s actually from American lines… or just a darker coat colour? (Because some people call darker/redder coats American retrievers)

Thank you, Faith, that’s actually very good idea. I will check with them.

tk123, I mean actual American line, not only colour: different body type, longer fur, almond shape eyes etc. That’s probably it’s so difficult to find one here in Ireland where UK line is dominant.

Maybe give the GRSOI / AIGRC a call.

For me personally as the owner of retrievers with different temperaments the thought of importing one would be just too risky as I’d be missing out on key socialisation periods with vaccination and kennelling requirements. Temperament and health for me is more important that anything else!

I know what you mean about some of the retrievers you see here but most of the dogs you see out and about aren’t from reputable breeders. My newest boy (Irish/U.K./Swedish lines)is big .. as in double the size of some retrievers we meet and he’s only 1 lol 😅

How did you get on in the end, as a retriever owner, I am very interested to know if your search borne fruit? A neighbour returned to Ireland from California and brought her American golden, s service dog, with her, he is very appealing to look at, longer fox red hair, great broad construction, and same temperament as you would expect. You don't see them often at all.
