Hi , I was not too sure if this or social welfare is correct forum , I reckon its here as its a Revenue related inquiry.

I am Divorced - Son (21) living with me - I get the SPCC , Allowance , as he is doing an apprenticeship , and is in year one.

I am entitled to this as an (Solas) apprenticeship is deemed to be in full time education. He gets 280 euro into his hand a week after tax.

He needs a car to attend work in various locations - With Petrol /Maintenance /Loan (70 a week) he has very little to live on.

Revenue tell me the following -

Quote - It depends the income your son has. You will need to state how much he will earn for all years while in the apprenticeship. Technically, the SPPC is only granted where a child is fully dependant on the parent -

His rates are attached below- Presently on 7.98 an hour , rising to 11.99 , next year. My query is - How do they define - "where a child is fully dependent on the parent ? He would find it very difficult to survive if he was not living with me rent free , thanks all. D
