Alternative to itunes

I have an old ipod mini 4 gig i tried to install it on my pc, the itunes installation does not work , i just want to be able to transfer mp3,s , podcasts to the ipod. is there any old programs like copytrans i can use to transfer mp3s, i tried looking for copytrans it does not seem to exist anymore.
