When will we get the hosepipe ban?

It's lashing from the heavens now but 1 or 2 days of lashing doesn't cancel out weeks of dryness.

The crowd running Irish Water will be eager to give people the impression that global warming is getting worse as well as becoming progressively more risk adverse and thus feel incentivised to bring back the start date of the hosepipe ban slightly with each passing year. That combined with more people moving into the country & under-investment in infrastructure should ensure that the hosepipe ban does indeed start a bit earlier every year.

I'd say if we get the usual week of sun in June when Leaving Cert starts they will have the hose pipe bans in the following week and they will last until September like last year.

I think the climate is changing, we can now go 2 weeks with no rain then we get

1 or 2 days of heavy rain. Is there no plan to fix leaks in old water pipes?

I cycle every day,for 40 minutes so I really notice when it rains.

Right now India and pakistan are going thru a massive heat wave, 90 degrees plus, no sign of rain.

1 day of hot weather and they've started mulling. It's set to rain some bit every day for the next week. Wonder will that stop them? lol

This year there will be no hosepipe ban

The couple of dry days are just being used as an excuse. We had a very wet June.

If we had domestic water charges would they be so keen to introduce hosepipe bans? If people were paying by the litre and using hosepipes, Irish Water would be benefitting from economies of scale, reducing the impact of fixed overheads.

Something similar can be seen with the ESB - up until very recently they were penalising (via low usage standing charges) customers for not using enough electricity while crowing about their green credentials and while EirgrId were warning about the demands on the grid.

Hosepipe bans are a great way for Irish Water to generate publicity for themselves and keep themselves somewhat relevant while blaming climate change and the general public for problems.
