Letter of offer while still on probation

We have approval in principle from AIB, considering we clearly stated we were on probation.

We found a house we liked but I am not sure if AIB will actually issue a letter of offer while I'm on probation. I called the bank and the person on the phone insisted that they won't issue a letter of offer while on probation. Not sure why they gave us approval in principle then.

Has anyone had any experiences in this regard? Afraid of putting a booking deposit down if there is no chance we'll be able to sign the contracts.

    Thanks.
