Why the hell do plumbers put those on during boiler services without asking your permission?

The assumption is the person won't remember to get their boiler serviced?

But what if, as in my case, I use whichever plumber is available and don't always go for the same one? You end up with a boiler that looks like a suitcase that has been through 20 different airports.

Simple.. just ask permission before doing it.
