    Hi,

I got a new tv and moved the position

Extended the sat and saorview cables with two male connectors and a new cable

Tested it on old TV, no signal, then got a tuner overload message (saorview works fine)

    New TV nor working either

Anyone know what I could have screwed up?

Did you make the new cable yourself or is it pre-made?

I would guess a short between the braid and core.

Pre made, but to get the new cable through drilled holes I pulled off the connectors and reattached. I've no idea how to put them back properly, so I may have shorted for sure

Yeah, you almost certainly did if you've not done it before. What looks like it makes sense will probably end up with stuff meeting that shouldn't!

Are they normal F connectors? They are quite easy to re-do (but not obvious):

If you used normal TV connectors, that won't work at all.

No it was proper satellite connectors, but when I took off thr male connectors to fit the wire through wood and then reassembled them, must have made a balls of it

I would recheck your f connectors again as like on the post above and just make sure the single copper inner does not have the shielding touching it . Recheck both ends. If your Saorview is working you did not mix the cables up.

Pre made up cables dont have removable F connectors but usually crimped on ones. Do you have a photo ?

And this is an example of the actual wire

Excellent now we are getting somewhere , i would redo your connections again and cutting them to start afresh as the centre cable is bent at the base and could be touching the outside of F connector + have the tip longer centre by 3 - 5 mm from your nut.

Also dont bend cables at the F connector and have them straight.

So I went back to the attic, to the original wire which I extended. I took off the first connector on it and plugged the copper wire straight in to the TV making sure the sheath mesh was nowhere near.

Nada. Think I've either kinked the wire under a floorboard or pulled the fecking thing out of the lnb on the chimney.

Time for a pro I think

View the lnb as installers usually have it hanging down to keep water from entering it.

On another note you show twin shotgun cable are both of these used or 1 spare which is the real one.

Kinked sat cable under floorboard i think not.

The outer braid has to be in contact with the outer part of the connector to complete the circuit, the only requirement is that it doesn't touch the centre core wire.

    Hi

Twin cable. One coming from the saorview multiplexer, the other from the lnb

So I went to the attic and redid thr satellite for connector and then tested it on a TV

    All good!!!!

However, when I connected back the extension and tried it on the actual TV, still not working

However, thus proves thr LNB and cable are good. Its just thr extension, the end of which I had to take off the factory fitted f connecter to get through wood. So following a definite line of enquiry

    Thanks greaseplam

A kink or excessive bend during installation can render the cable unusable unfortunately.

You will find a video guide on how to fit an F-connector to a coax cable here under the video guide tab

The cable on the roll had crimped connections which you leave and removable on the other end if you wanted to shorten the length of cable.

    Yep, another bad connection
