Siro. Vodafone and eero 6

Have just got Vodafone with the gigabox from a siro box on the wall.

I want to set up eero 6. Is the best to do that to remove the gigabox and go straight from the siro box to eero?

what would be the best settings on the eero to do this?

• Uplink VLAN turned on and WAN set to PPPOE?

Is this right or am I missing anything?

I’m not sure the Eero would work that way. I have it at home and I plug into the Gigabox router and have the wifi on the Gigabox turned off

Is that just putting the gigabox into bridge mode (Legacy RG IPv4Mode)? Anything else you had to change, or any settings you changed on the eero?

I tried putting it into bridge mode but it knocked the internet off so I gave up on that and just turned the wifi off in the Gigabox menu I think and all was good

It is possible to plug a router straight into the ONT (once it supports VLAN tagging which it appears Eero does).

You need to tag it correctly and need the PPPOE login details

VLAN: 10

Username: <vodafone router serial number>@vfieftth.ie

Password: broadband

Thanks for this. I didn’t realise this was an option. I’ll let the op give it a bash. I’m sure there’s little to no difference performance wise? Good to have one less thing plugged in I guess

Just knocking the WiFi off can lead to Double NAT (and potentially DHCP issues where both routers are trying to hand out IP addresses).

Depending on your use case it might not impact you, if it works its probably doing no harm.

I’ve read about that before but I’m not having any issues with gaming online, streaming, wfh or any of the many smart devices in the gaff

If the op gets it going I might give it a bash but I don’t want to burn up time on it when I have no complaints as is. It’s not even straightforward to check if you’re double natted 😩🤣

So I couldn’t get it going direct to ONt as Eero wouldn’t save PPPOE and kept resorting back to DCHP.

have also just turned WiFi off! Seems to be ok so far. Really disappointed with the range even with 2 extenders.

Really? I have 3 eero pros and I’m happy out. Obviously the closer you are to the main unit the better. It’s advised to connect them all via Ethernet cable but mine are wireless because it would take too much messing in my house
