Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi

I am looking for some support for my 11 year old to improve his handwriting, does anyone know of anyone who could do some intensive work with him on it to make it legible!

I found https://www.magiclinkhandwriting.com but they are based out of the UK

    Thanks

    Jerry

I'd start by focusing on his motor skills. If he hasn't the correct pencil/pen grip and fine motor skills, he won't ever write in a legible manner. Could you get an OT assessment for him? And if he's 11, I'd also be thinking in terms of touch typing for him as well.

In the meantime, you could consider these ideas:

I can't help with personal experience, but you might find free and paid workbook and sheet on popular marketplaces and in the interrnet.

Have you considered if he might have dyslexia or disgraphia? In both cases he might be reading fine but find it impossible to work a pen?

The Mrs. Murphy copies are great for practising handwriting: https://edcohandwriting.ie/

I would strongly, strongly suggest getting your child checked for dyspraxia. It was assumed that I was just really bad at handwriting - it was dyspraxia. It had huge, negative, impacts on my secondary education with it not being diagnosed.

The Handwriting Without Tears programme is recommended by a number of occupational therapists and can be used successfully at home.

I'd buy the book with the green cover if you want to focus on print handwriting.

Handwriting without Tears is a full system. I've done the training, you need to implement the wet/dry/try etc. The green book would be quite childish for an 11 year old I would think?
