Shower pump randomly running for short bursts

Over the last two days my shower pump has randomly started running for maybe 2-3 seconds at a time before going quiet again.

This might happen up to 20 times during the day, despite their being no water being used anywhere in the house say the time it happens.

Can anyone tell me the likely cause? The pump is only a couple of years old and doesn't get excessive use.

    Amy ideas?

Probably an air lock, do you have a shower or tap that is not used that often? if so run them for a few minutes and you will hear the air come out

That could be it. One of the toilets began spitting air this morning when refilling. Thanks!
