Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Lazy people getting promoted

I've seen this happen a couple of times over the years and I'm interested to know what you guys think.....

Anyway, years back, I was working in a restaurant and we were always busy, even during the recession years. We, we meaning me and my close few friends, worked excruciatingly hard, always had to go above and beyond and we never put in a bad shift, regardless of how busy it would get.

There was another guy that we worked with that barely lifted a finger, would forever stay lazy throughout his shift, and rarely did any of the normal stuff, even if it wasn't busy, like empty the bins and stock up, those kinds of things, he would just stand there and try to count the clock down until it was his time to depart.

Anyway, he became a manager, and it took us all by surprise, we were not expecting it to happen, he would have been the last person that we would have expected to be in a managerial role. We were trying to figure it all out, it's nothing to do with experience or qualifications, he has the same as everyone else

Surely some of you must have seen this happen at some stage?

It seems to be a recurring thing that we've noticed.

    Work smart, not hard.

It's not what you know, it's who you know.

Be unctious/obsequious/brown-nose those who have a say on who gets promoted.

    Take your pick.

Where I worked once we had a disaster of an assistant manager that was got rid of by our manager by recommending him for is own shop to manage.

I don't think he did that badly at it but the problems of over stocking and orders of stupid stock that we'd never sell stopped.

Wake me up when it's all over.
