    Can be hard to clean without damaging the foam, you don't want it too wet either. You could lightly mist with all purpose cleaner and gentle scrub it

    Could I cut a thin layer off the try remove the smell.

    I have given it a clean but it still smells

    You could but I'd probably spray the likes of an odour eliminator on it in and leave it soak in. With the good weather you could leave it outside to dry
