Leaving job - just looking for PRSI stamp

    Hi,

I am considering leaving my job for a few months to get a bit of a break from burnout. I know that they dont award JA/JB for 9 weeks if you leave of your own accord. Honestly I am not looking for any handout other than a continuity in my PRSI stamp, I plan to take 12 weeks out from the end of may and a new role I have been offered starts in September so the benfefit I would get from JA/JB doesnt seem much. How might I go about this or can I just pay for the 3 months PRSI myself, the voluntary contribution scheme seems to say I can pay 500 euro for the 3 months, though I find that a bit confusing

Hi OP, OK I think I understand your concern and situation.

Firstly in order to insure continuity with contributions it's advisable to sign even if you have to wait a while to receive a benefit payment, seperately, perhaps consider illness benefit. I reckon you would have enough contributions to qualify for JSB or Illness Benefit, both of which are not means tested. Keep in mind, relevant tax year for claiming is 2020.

    You mentioned the 9 week's rule, @TooTired123

Who has more experience on this matter explained previously its not that you have to wait 9 weeks, I'll let them explain better, hopefully they'll pick up on this post.

If you don't want to sign on, my gut feeling is a better option given your situation is to perhaps talk to your GP, explain how things are and they might agree to issue an incapacity cert, which you need to claim illness benefit.

To do nothing would not be wise, I don't believe as a Payee employee you can just pay prsi yourself but I emphasise, I can't be sure and again someone might be able to better clarify this.
