The time has come to scrap my 99 Peugeot 306, can anyone recommend a reputable company for handling this? I just want to ensure I get all the relevant paperwork before handing the car over. It is still drivable so I can drop it off if needs be. Cheers!

Dublin Fire Brigade where collecting old cars and supplying the paperwork, they need them for training.

I used https://www.cartakeback.ie/ - no problems at all, they collected the car at the agreed time and promptly sent a cheque for the agreed amount.

Did they give you a certificate of destruction along with the money?

Scrapmycar Dublin are based near Dublin airport. Your car may be worth something particularly if it has a catalytic converter. I suggest ring a few places and ask how much if you deliver. They all should issue a certificate of destruction and you may be able to claim back some car tax if you have that.

The cat in a Peugeot of that vintage could be worth upwards of 300 euro, just letting you know

Unless there's something majorly wrong with it, why not try selling it firstly before scrapping? At that age you're getting into modern classic territory, somebody might be looking for one. If you've any concerns around paperwork, just make sure you check the buyers ID and post the VLC yourself.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

Yeah, it's driving fine. I bought a new clutch last year but apart from that, it hasn't needed anything.

It needs 4 new tyres and it failed the NCT on two other things. I've been given a newer car by a relative so that's the only reason I am getting rid of it. I didn't think there would be a market for a car of that age but I will advertise it and see what happens.

If it's solid and mostly mechanically sound, it's probably worth trying to sell it. The 306 was a decent car and they're getting rare now. Certainly "modern classic" territory.

    N2 Salavge.

If it’s worth anything, they will give you cash and they give you the print out cert there and then that it was handed to them for scrap page with the original coming by post a week later.

I used them 3 times last year scrapping Prius’s to get the taxi grants for EV’s.

Gannons are an excellent company to deal with if you decide to scrap it. You won't get big money but you will get certification of scrappage and paid. I've had them recover several cars abandoned on my property by my kids and would highly recommend them.
