    Hi all,

A couple questions to ask as I want to apply for a UK provisional license as an Irish citizen who has just moved to London. Im hoping there is someone with the experience in the past who can help

    1. The online form seems to only accept a UK passport number or Share code as proof of ID. As Irish we do not have a UK passport or share code as we are classed as "settled" automatically. Is there a way around this or do we need to fill in the paper form?
    2. If we need to fill in the paper form. it states that I must be living in the UK more than 185 days. But as we Irish are automatically settled, does this still apply? As I have just moved here

Their website is useless for info and their contact number always says busy.

    Hope someone can assist.

    thanks

I doubt that the procedures have changed in recent years but Irish people needed to send their passports to Swansea to apply for a U.K. provisional when I was doing it. At one stage there were a number of regional offices which were supposed to be able to inspect it at the counter. I went to the Wimbledon one but the procedures had changed. At the time I was travelling internationally every week so couldn’t be without the passport which delayed me.

the 185 or 183 day rule was also in place the n also. Even on the day of the test you have to certify that your usual/habitual residence is in the U.K. on the flip side, getting lessons and test dates is generally much easier than Ireland. If you’re in London and want to get the test quickly, try intensivecourses.co.uk. it’s a husband/wife team and Noel is from Meath. I found him brilliant (as did Adele, Niall Horan and a host of other celebs). He’s a proper instructor and uses the celeb clients to drive business. He specialises in 2-3 week courses with 2-3 hours per day and a test at the end.
