DeWalt Power Tools - Battery interchangeability?

Hi,

I've got a DCD710 impact driver and a DCF815 drill. They came as a set with a pair of 2Ah batteries. I'm now looking to add a cordless grinder and will most likely be getting another DeWalt. Are the batteries interchangeable between all these products or how can you tell if certain models share a common battery form?

Edit: Guessing as those are 10.8V and most grinders are 18V - 20V that they are not compatible.

A grinder needs more than 2ah to work any decent amount of time . Have all 5ah dewalt here and the grinder eats battery

You will get away with 4ah on a grinder for certain jobs. I bought my dewalt grinder bare unit for around £100 off amazon, now you can get the brushless one for £112 there, cheapest I saw was £100 for brushless. The brushless has a lock on switch which I don't like, just as a personal preference I prefer the trigger switch. You can definitely get better deals buying from UK, I sourced all mine over there for half the price. There are a good few sites that give good prices, its still possible to get stuff in cheaper than buying here.

Yeah I have two 3/4ah 18v batteries and even cutting some light sheets 10ft in length for barrier gates ate through them quick enough

@Aska - good to see you on here again. How are things going with you?

@nklc @timple23 what model of DeWalts did you go for? Do they have any of the e-clutch or kickback brakes?

What is there to look out for - Just for basic light use. Got a mountain of ripped out fencing that I want to cut the posts out of and rubbish to cut about the yard. Are brushless ones the way to go? Do the kits with the TStak, batteries and grinder work out cheaper than buying separately?

If De Walt batteries are an issue it's worth keeping an eye out for deals. I needed to replace 2x4ah batteries last year. I got a reasonable hammer action drill + 2x5Ah batteries in a Tstack box from screwfix for less than the price of 2x5Ah batteries anywhere else. The "free" drill is useful as a spare/alternate.

Things are ok, a few years to go still on the lease, still daily the biggest regret of my life! people have said shure you will have it back soon but the regret part also comes from the not just messing up the current 10 years but also the rest of my life going forward as I know it.

People would want to really consider their actions and think forward before making any rash decisions and talk to people who experienced them decisions in the past, don't do like me and listen to the wrong people who actually had vested interests ie.... someone who is in line to rent the land telling you it's the best decision you will ever make, haha. I walked into that one.

Grinder £110, 5ah battery £60, I would buy a case that costs £30. Chargers are 30 or less. You might not think there is much difference in price between that and what you linked, but the amazon price is the total cost, with the other one you will have vat and customs on top of it which would push it to £300ish. Also if buying on amazon just make sure to order separately because if order goes over 150£, you pay customs.

I have quite a lot of those XR series tools. Started collecting 2 years ago. I find the convenience of battery very handy. Drill, impact driver, impact masonry drill, leaf blower, chainsaw, cordless grinder and most recently hedge cutter.

I have the 2ah but theyre not much use for other than the drill. I have some 5ah and I also have a few Waitley 6ah I get from Ali xpress for about 45 euro. They're every bit as good
