    Hi,

I have got quotes for replacement windows and doors from a number Its a 3 bed semi and the price difference between the highest and lowest quote is approximately €8,000. Of the quotes I got I was wondering if anyone has experience of getting windows fitted by McMahon and Nagle, Keane and also DK windows. If you could pm please it would be much appreciated (I don't think we are allowed comment publicly on companies?)

    Thanks for any advice

What kind of quotes did you get if the price difference is €8k? I’m getting 9 windows and 2 doors, 2 windows extra large for 10k all in triple glazed.

2 doors, large patio door, 7 windows (3 small) and french window style patio door, triple glaze, Quotes are between 13 and 21k (the 21k is supposed to have a 35% discount this month)

13k seems nearer the going rate, 21k sounds crazy.

That 35% discount has been going every month for years.

Window prices are gone crazy. Up from about 350 a window to 600 (1.4m x 1.4m) just for the windows alone, ex fitting.

I have used Keanes in the past - they were fine but I don't believe that they make the window frames themselves. I had two problems during the fitting and these were resolved quickly to my satisfaction (one frame cracked during and one door was installed with a bar in the incorrect location).

I have bought windows off DK and self-fitted. I find them to be good quality and the staff are helpful. They do manufacture the frames in Meath and get the glass in from Irish suppliers.

    Hopefully this helps.

We used McMahon and Nagle and would highly recommend them.

very good installation, removed original window and installed new without doing any damage to sills or surround

This may sound like a totally stupid question but is it possible to install a replacement window from the outside? We have one room (ground floor) where access is awkward and fitting a window from the inside would involve an awful lot of re-arranging.

Correct, they are installed from outside, but access is still needed inside to physically detach the window from the opening and then re-seal it again.

I’d steer clear of them. I’ve heard far to many horror stories and general incompetence involving them

    Google

Munster joinery reviews , trustpilot has a shocking amount of bad reviews from 2022 alone

I put in Munster standard windows and doors in a house in 2012. No issues until a problem with a door in 2020. Took their repair guy a few weeks to sort it out though.

The rep was a bit flaky though, and made a mistake in the quote over two houses, then wouldn't stand over original. Ended up bypassing the rep.

Didn’t want to start yet another windows and doors thread- this is a 2022 thread so nicely up to date.

My question is- Aluminium windows vs UPVc- is it worth going for aluminium considering costs considerably higher?

Im looking to get triple glazing -

Depends on what you're looking for, Alu-clad/wood windows will generally look better (flush finish mostly) vs. PVC, U-values can be comparable. Our estate is mostly original wood (1990 built, Rationel windows) or replaced with Alu-Clad or something like this (same cost as alu-clad with a similar finish but less maintenance): R9 | Timber Alternative Windows | The Residence Collection

If you want a wood interior finish, go with alu-clad, if you're happy with plain white, then something like the R9 will look better.

Aluminium will also give you access to the RAL colour range (All RAL colors + buy RAL color fan deck | RALcolorchart.com) which is what they go mad for on Room To Improve.
