Water tank upstairs always turning on

    Hi everyone,

We have a large water tank in our hot press upstairs.

Whenever anyone turns on a tap anywhere in the house, after ten seconds or so, the motor (?) comes on on the water tank to (presumably) refill it. Is this necessary or could the tank be turned off for periods of the day / put on a timer?

    Thanks.

It's more likely that the pump isn't filling the tank and that it is pumping out the water. This would increase the pressure at the taps and shower.

The pump should be wired to a switch or spur. If you turn off the switch it will give you an indication of water pressure without the pump. You might decide that you want the pressure during waking hours but are happy without during bed time hours. You can install a timer. This will stop the pump kicking in when someone flushes the toilet at 3am
