Base for iron (laundry)

I would like to make a box with a base where when I'm finished ironing clothes I can unplug the hot iron and immediately put it in the box but would need to get the right base. Any ideas for this such as a raised metal grill or some special material that would not damage the hot iron when placed directly on it? Thanks.

a ceramic tile cut to the size of the box should do the trick
