We are about to buy a new EV and have shortlisted 3 cars, ID3 comfort with intelligent parking, or ZOE GT line or Kona 64kw premium. All cars are between 34 and 39k.

I can get the Zoe and the ID3 this week, not sure about the kona.

Av Weekly mileage is approx 600km per week.

80% motorway 20% M50 into the city centre

Should I be looking at other cars?

Id price up an Ioniq 5 if buying at that 40 k price bracket.

Bigger car and more advanced tech etc.

Is the ID3 comfort back on sale again???? I thought they had cut back to one ID3 DX model due to production complications.

Are you aware of the Zoes dire NCAP safety rating of zero stars on the new generation ze50 model.

Also, how can you get an id3 this week? I thought the waiting list was almost a year! But good for you if you can.

If range is priority #1, the. kona 64 KW is the best option here, off the top ofmy head : Kona 64kw has about 480km estimated range, ID3about 425, and Zoe about 395 km.

Zoe is a good bit smaller than the other 2 models, and also has the least powerful motor, seeing as its 80 % motorway driving is required.

Either of the 3 models would be sufficient, depends on your own personal choice of power and taste, but for 600km weekly driving needs i would axe the Zoe from the list. The GT version of the Zoe has a lot of extras but its way less powerful and less roomy than the other two, particularly in the cabin.

+1 on the ioniq 5 if possible. It will be worth more than a Kona or Zoe at the end of the lease so it might not actually cost that much more to own the "latest and greatest"

The ioniq5 is big though. Why drive a big car around if you don’t need to? The Id.3 is the family car in our house now.

    Cancelled order?????.

The 52 kwh ID4 has been unavailable for new purchase for ages now but a woman on the IEVOA Facebook got a new 52 kwh last week.

She ordered it originally ages ago so its actually her car she ordered that came through.

But the point is stuff may well come through from old orders to a spec no longer available to order new.

Some people will have cancelled but car still in system to be built.

Anyway I interpreted this week as meaning going for a test drive tbh.

On a wider point of why an Ioniq 5 - well i was just making sure OP knew that an Ioniq could be got for not much more then a 64 kwh Kona.

Thanks for replies, yea cancelled orders, Cars are available asap, collect ID3 or Zoe on tuesday. Small car is better

IONIQ 5 looks too big. But we will go and see one.

ID3 comfort with intelligent parking added has just become available in 1 garage for 37k out the door. Can collect asap. It must b someones cancellation. If I don't buy someone else will.

Zoe gt I can collect on tuesday 34k cash, odd colour.

This new ZOE has been updated with side modifications due to the Euro NCAP

We haven't sat in the Kona so have no ideas

If you have not already done so, and it sounds like you have not, Test drive them all, and you’l know, which is the right fit for you.

Was there not something recently about the Zoe having awful NCAPP test results? They removed some airbags? I'd stay away from it for that reason alone.

If you haven’t put down a deposit on the ID3. It may well be gone before you go in.

I picked up our ID4 on Thursday, it arrived into the garage on Tuesday. The dealer said 3 different people had come in waiving cash for it.

Unreal! You’d wonder how many would be selling without the supply chain issues.

If the Zoe has been updated to fix the issues then great but its genuinely the first I've heard of it.

I've tweeted a couple of people in the know about Zoes to try and confirm this so if I hear anything back I will update the thread.

This new ZOE gt has been updated with side modifications due to the Euro NCAP, it is 2k more expensive now

The ID3 will fly out the door, garage closed until Tuesday

    So twitter replies are in

    Uk Renault and EV salesman

    (Direct quote)

"They had removed the play model and adding AEBS as standard - which will lift it (if retested) from 0* to 2*"

    From Zoe owners club

"The fix* is to actually fit airbags to head height which were removed by Renault.

So unless your fitting airbags to the ze50 that will cover head height then no.

Plus as far as I'm aware it needs seat modification for airbag so new seat also needed".

So no indication from those replies that a fix is actually in place apart from adding things that weren't the big original issue - albeit will lift the cars score on a retest if that's ever done.

*i think the Owners club person is outlining what would in his view be required for any fix rather then saying there's actually a fix.

The UK get different spec cars. Do what happens over there doesn’t always transfer over here

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,634 ✭✭✭ Old diesel

    Absolutely.

I decided the best way forward was just to quote the tweets in their entirety rather paraphrase an interpretation of what someone else said.

The correct course of action as a next step is to get something definitive from Renault Ireland or your dealer re the precise changes.

I was hoping for a straightforward yes or no answer to be honest.

I should note as well that said Renault and EV salesman is actually very well regarded by UK EVers - he sells Hyundais as well.

Yea the new Zoe has a height adj drivers seat and 7 airbags

  • Registered Users Posts: 62 ✭✭ daarmcd

The ID3 has already been sold, someone online bought it from the garage over easter without viewing and the Zoe has an offer on it.

New EV's are gone as soon as they are advertised

You should have stuck a deposit on the ID3 as soon as you saw it I think.

You most likely could have backed out without losing your deposit when you test drive it then.

As a matter of interest how much were they looking for?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,586 ✭✭✭✭ fits

The ID.3 is a great car tbh. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. Sorry you missed this one.

  • Registered Users Posts: 62 ✭✭ daarmcd

37k comfort version with intell park

I think cash wise they could have gone a little lower

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,331 ✭✭✭✭ TitianGerm

Theres going to be very few ID3 available over the next while because VW seem to be focusing on ID4.

Have you looked at the Cupra Born? More expensive but you might get lucky with an initial delivery slot.

Born won't be available until July at least
