Peak estate agent arrogance?

After an experience today, I'm wondering apropos this thread title.

A local estate agent only occasionally replies to email/Daft/MyHome enquiries about properties they are selling.

Upon meeting the agent today, I mentioned this and their reply was "you do send a lot of emails", made no apology for not replying to said emails, went on about how many emails they have to deal with and said it's better to pick up the phone (there is often no answer and no return of call when a message is left).

I don't know how we've got to this stage (again) and whether it can last.

Thoughts?

In fairness they are only getting €4500 for every 300k house they sell.

You hardly expect them to answer emails at that low rate of commission considering how difficult it is to sell houses in the current climate.

On boards we only hear one side of the story. I don't see how anyone can voice an opinion on your opening post without more information. Why are you sending so many emails?What information are you looking for in the email? Are you getting totally blanked or are they responding to each query only once?

Im not saying that you are at fault but more information would help reassure us that it's the estate agent at fault

Same applies to anyone trying to rent as buy. The standard is one gets the daft alert and fills out the generic form immediately and it is ignored. Follow up calls yield absolutely nothing.

The only pointer for success is when a landlord puts up their phone number and one contacts them directly.

Estate agents with excuses like they are too busy to answer emails, working from home or understaffed is quite frankly ****.

Speaking from experience of once advertising a rental with my own number/email, I took it down after one day and only read/replied to less than 1% of what I received. One has no idea how many people apply for rentals.

An estate agent I spoke to recently got 800 emails in one day when advertising a house to rent on DAFT. No way did all 800 or even 90% of them get a reply!
