Advice - Economical automatic (non-Plug in) up to 30Keuro.

Looking for advice for best car or 'suv' that doesn't need plugging in for charging.. Must be auto, reliable.. will do about 70km a day, mainly motorway..

Up to 30K to spend, looking for something with 40,000km or less on clock.. (Petrol hybrid or diesel better?)

Toyota CH-R 1.8 - (2019) seems good steady option..

Peugeot 3008 - (2018) (Petrol 1.2, less efficient than a CH-R it seems, nice inside, probably none with less than 50K Km for budget, diesel also option here)

Hyundai Kona - (2021) (petrol hybrid)

Toyota Corolla - haven't looked at these...(would it have same engine as a CH-R??)

Lantus

For a cheaper option an extreme duster auto? 25k brand new but equally good cheaper versions on offer. Puts money back in your pocket. Holds value well.

Mainly just don't want to have to charge every night or so / worrying about having to get to a charger...Wouldn't have the time to wait for it to charge versus go to a petrol/diesel pump... (and don't know much about fully electric really). :). Have a drive-way however!

If considering a plug-in hybrid, would a BMW 3 (say 70K-90 km already on clock, about 4 years old) be expensive to run and a bit of a potential money-pit compared to the options above?

You don't have to ever wait for a charger, that's the point of a plug in. An overnight charge would cover a nice chunk of your commute.

VW Passat GTE would be a better plug in hybrid option. Would only cover about 25km of your journey tho.

Can you charge at work? If not I reckon you’d be better off with a diesel

Takes about 5 seconds to plug in, grant for charger 600 euro, get it now, soon enough it will be gone, set timer on car get night rate electricity, save money on house electricity also.

Sorry but chances are you would visit the pump once every 2 months.

Don't have to wait, it will use petrol after the battery is empty.

It will teach you about electrics without any hardships/problems.

Drive way is good,

Range can vary from 30 to 60 km, for less than 1 euros worth of electricity, the best any of your choices will do is 60 mpg, longer range phevs would return nearly double that on 70 km.

The BMW will only do about 25 km, small battery on the older ones,(50 km on newer), 40 mpg on petrol and BMW do a extended warranty with excess, you would have to call them for price.

Hybrid: Corolla 1.8 Petrol (around year 2021) or Lexus IS350H (around 2018)

or PHEV: BMW 330E (about 2018) or maybe Kia xceed phev new if can stretch to the cost of it.

The 330e has a tiny battery, the additional weight of the battery and the motor really makes it pointless as a PHEV. I think its a 9kWh but they used to have a big thread on it in electric cars thread

No idea on the ceed but the Niro Phev is excellent from what I have heard

If going for a PHEV why not full electric? I have a full electric for 5 years and used public charging maybe 4-5 times.

The Xceed PHEV has the same drivetrain as the Niro PHEV and Kia has kept it for the new Niro PHEV.

OP if you shop around, you might find little in the cost to change between a 2021 Corolla and a new Xceed.

Agree with @brokenangel that best to go with a PHEV with decent EV range so that you can do all your local driving in EV mode.

thanks both., seems from the feedback that the BMW isn't much good, so will eliminate that from the search! Will check out the Kia's next week..
