    Hi there,

I would like to sort this myself, where might I buy zinc strips for roofing (in Dublin) ? It's not a Woodies/Screwfix kind of thing so if I could get any pointers, I would be very grateful, maybe Sandyford somewhere ?

    Thanks

    Alan.

I think copper is the go-to metal for this application. The rain acting with the copper produces copper sulphate and that's what does the work. I don't know how handy you are but personally, i'd buy old copper tank/s on adverts and make my own strips.

A quick google throws up this -

I did a little test on my shed roof where I did half with copper strips (made from old copper pipe) and left the rest. It does work.

Thanks for that, this isn't to go over a ridge so will look for some simple strips of copper/zinc. Don't have a full repository to take apart tanks and pipes etc !

Years ago I used to able to buy copper sheet by the metre from Chadwickes in Thomas Street, 610mm wide I think, it was sold for flashing and roofing. I have also repurposed copper cylinders for metalwork, but I would heat these strips up to dull red to burn off any scale and allow to air cool to anneal.

Thanks for the replies ! Would be nice to not have to de-moss every 2 years.
