Received stolen phone from Amazon

I recently purchased a Galaxy S21 from Amazon.de. It arrived this morning and the box was sealed so everything looked ok. When I was setting it up though, I saw a message saying "This device belongs to your organization". I continued the set up and when it went to main screen, a locked message appeared saying that the phone was stolen and locked to the IT admin. There was an email and phone number listed.

I contacted Amazon immediately and they told me to post it back for a full refund. I probably should have done my homework and checked the seller's feedback! A few people (in German) have reported that they received the same stolen phones.

How can Amazon allow them to continue to sell? I'm sure the other customers reported this to Amazon!

They don't care, Amazon is full of scams it's nearly as bad as eBay.

Another issue is that even if you buy from a reputable seller all items are pulled from the same bin so you could get a fake from a different seller.

Amazon is a marketplace and it's just as bad as ebay, including scammers, fraudsters, stolen goods and drop shipping (which is legal but should not be allowed). Where Amazon is better is customer protection, but in any case you should never buy expensive stuff from business working out of an apartment.
