Reuse thermal paste

I think I know the answer already but want to double check, as I'm short on time.

I received my replacement mobo from amazon today. Just went to swap over the cpu now and realised the cpu release latch is under the heatsink. I have to remove the heatsink to get the cpu out. I don't have any thermal paste in the house.

My question is, can i pull off the heatsink, remove the cpu and then just put the heatsink back on the cpu in the new motherboard without cleaning and re-applying thermal paste?

I presume not, but for the sake of saving a few days while waiting on delivery, I said I'd double check.

On another note, how essential is isopropyl alcohol to clean off the old paste? Rumour has it I can get IPA in the chemist. Is there an alternative I can use if I can't get any?

Years ago i got 1L bottle in chemist, but i had to seek to speak to manager - women at the counter refused to sell.
