    Afternoon All,

My wife is expecting, she is an employee of the HSE. She will get 6 months paid maternity cover, then can take 16 weeks unpaid leave and then goes on the 7 weeks parents leave with social welfare payment.

For the 16 weeks unpaid leave can she get paid social welfare payment?

During the 16 weeks unpaid leave and 7 weeks parent leave can she transfer her tax credits to me as her husband?

Would appreciate any insight from anyone who knows the ins and outs of this?

She may be eligible for parents or parental leave after the 26 weeks maternity benefit. Parents leave is 5 weeks paid as far as I'm aware.

Tax bands and credits can only be shared if you are jointly assessed for income tax. You would need to request Revenue to change your bands/credits when she is on leave. Alternatively she get her unused credits and standard rate band allocation when she returns to work, or if that isn't until next year then you can claim back any overpaid taxes in an income tax return for 2022, from January 2023.
