New meter cabinet - external?

If the old meter is now part of an internal wall (extension) and there was no recessed area built in for a new meter box on the external wall what do you do when it comes to moving the meter? Is any external ESB Meter box acceptable? If so how should the ducting be hidden and protected?

From checking the ESB's PDF it seems the answer is no, the hockey stick has to run up through the cavity or be run up a channel made up the external wall. It's going to be messy with insulation but just wondering if I could make a concrete plinth for one and run the hockey stick up through that. Sit the meter box on top of it. It would probably be easier.

    Thanks.

Surface mounted meter boxes are acceptable. The hockey stick can be run surface and then be boxed in using suitable material (such as blocks / bricks).
