Smoke alarm fault after HKC alarm went off inexplicably

Is it just a co-incidence that there’s a fault with my smoke alarm since the HKC alarm went off for no reason?

    The systems aren’t linked.

Could both issues be caused by an electrical problem?

Is the smoke detector on the alarm system? If it is the alarm would have sounded. If so is it a wireless device? What hkc panel have you got?

    Thanks for the reply.

Each system was installed independently. There’s no connection between them.

I just find it odd that there was an issue with both at the same time.

    It’s not a battery issue.

I don’t know what type of panel I have.

Go to the keypad it will tell you. It should give you tge installer name. There is a possibility it is on the alarm if the both went off together.

    Systems are not connected.

Smoke alarms are 10 years old. HKC alarm (panel G2 Class II?) installed 4 months ago.

Who installed. They will come back and check the system. The installers are good on their warranties.

Yes, installer was very prompt and could find no fault with the HKC alarm. He changed the battery in the smoke alarm, which wasn’t his responsibility.

He couldn’t offer an explanation as to why the HKC alarm went off.

It seems that it’s just a coincidence?

See how you get on. Smoke detectors over 8 yrs should be replaced

    Replace the smoke alarms

Edit: you can now buy smoke alarms with carbon monoxide detection. Worth the little bit extra for rooms where you consume fuel

Thanks. Never realised that smoke alarms that are wired in have to be totally replaced.

Yes, they have a 10 year life span.

They should also be tested regularly.
