Have new york booked for three days in may with kids aged 10 and 12. Staying near times square. Anyone any suggestions for what to do? Looking at ellis island/statue ofbliberty. Also any good recommendations foe family friendly restaurants in the area?

Bronx Zoo for a day trip. Likewise, Statue of Liberty and Ellis, that's a long day. Maybe something uniquely American like a baseball game in May?

As for restaurants, good luck. Try Tripadvisor, NYC's got a huge number of poor-to-mediocre restaurants. Chinatown is fun, personally a fan of the Nom Wah on Doyer's Street which is off of Pell as I recall. Dim Sum all day long, kids might like that.

I would recommend doing a hop on hop off bus tour - ideal for the kids and you can pick a couple of places to visit. The natural history museum is fantastic - but would take up a full day to do it properly.

If you can get to Shea Stadium or Yankee park for a baseball game it is a nice fun way to spend an evening.

For food - in my experience take the time to get off the main tourist streets and you will have endless choices of places to eat.

Check out the Intrepid Museum, it's about a 20 minute walk from Times Square, they have a Concorde that you can board so you can always say you were on it once 😂 . Lots of interesting history and you can venture fully around the aircraft carrier.

You could try and see a broadway show, tickets can be bought in the tkts office at a cheaper rate on the day.

    Enjoy the trip

Get the subway to Brooklyn, queue for pizza at the place under the bridge and walk back to Manhattan across the bridge, ideally at dusk.

I had pizza at Grimaldi's, was very nice. Lovely walk back to Manhattan across the bridge after.

Statue of Liberty has to be booked well in advance if you want to go up.

Take the Staten Island ferry - great views of Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty and of Manhattan on the way back. Plus it's free.

I wouldn’t bother with Statue of Liberty. Intrepid is great. And just walk around Central Park, 5th avenue and the neighbourhoods. Walk over Brooklyn bridge is very nice.

That's the place, couldn't remember the name. There's always a queue but when you get in you'll see a couple of empty tables, got to keep up that legend of needing to queue. Great pizza though!

Central Park is worth a visit and the Natural History Museum close by. The Staten Island Ferry is a 20 minute free trip with great views of Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan Skyline. Get the subway home and get off in China town and eat on Mott Street. There can be free events in Byrant Park such as concerts, movies on the lawn. Check it out on Facebook.

Natural History Museum is impressive, and you can prepare the family with Night at the Museum.
