Old Sky TV box

I moved to sky Q and mini. Installer left old sky tv box in attic plugged in: we had multi room from it in past. Do I need it anymore?

    Only you can answer that.

Is it still connected to the dish? Without a subscription it's basically a limited free to air receiver. Is it serving any TV point without a SkyQ connection now?

I’ll check connection to dish but there’s a new cable run for sky Q. No it’s not serving any tv point. There’s still a card in it though. Tried ringing sky but 30 minute wait.

My assumption would be the card is no longer active with the subscription transferred to the new SkyQ box.

Also the installer will have upgraded the LNB on the dish arm to one compatible with the SkyQ receiver. The installer may have simply disconnected the old receiver from the dish.

The old LNB won't work with the new SkyQ receivers and vice versa but there are hybrid LNBs that work with both, not fitted as standard unless requested by the customer. The standard SkyQ LNB will have 2 outputs with 2 cables connected and the hybrid 4 or 6 outputs with all 4 cables connected.

No point ringing Sky, the old receiver is yours to do with what you wish. Can you check if there's any channels on the old receiver, non-subscription ones like Sky News for example.

This is a bit more curious. Three lines from satellite dish enter attic. Digibox has one input from dish and one output on RF line. That's all. It used to have phone line but that's redundant so I took it out. Digibox still has power. Other line seems to be old aerial connection for bedroom and maybe sitting room. Those I assume are redundant with Q but that's maybe what you meant by free to air connection?

Q has two inputs from wall in sitting room. One I presume is from digibox and 1 direct from dish. They are plugged into dish input 1 and dish input 2.

It looks like the digibox in attic is still needed?

Apologies for this but it's double dutch to me.

The sky box in the attic isn't required for the SkyQ box to operate, it will have its own 2 connections direct to the dish.

If you aren't using the old box in the attic to feed any TV points around the house just disconnect it from the power socket and dispose of it as you wish.

    Different but related question.

We also upgraded to Sky Q and still have the old Sky box. The old box had a programme saved on it of our daughter when she was on Elev8.

How would I go about getting that programme downloaded and saved onto an external hard drive?

    Thank you.

If the subscription has been transferred to the new SkyQ box I believe the recording is no longer accessible.

Oh well, I thought it would still be on there. Thanks for the reply.
