Our pencil / flagstaff cherry tree looks very healthy and the usual buds are forming for Spring.

At the base of the tree at ground level there is now a growth. It looks like cauliflower. It is brown in colour and quite hard / woody in texture.

What is this growth ? Might it be some form of cancour ?

Sounds to me like some sort of gall on the tree as explained in this article I just found.

    Happy gardening!
