I am unsure if this is the right place to post.

    Sorry for the long post.

I am currently paying €49.15 per month. That was after a €6 increase in November per month. Broadband any time calls and 200min European calls.

I do not have fibre as it is not in this estate it would make no difference to the usage. I never got it is as many years ago they said they could not put it is as the fibre was only a few inches in the box outside and shared lines. The contract says broadband up to 9G(never had that level)

Need to keep my telephone number.

I contacted an agent today and they offered technology forum but here is the but. He suggested I sign up with NBI (new broadband service being set up by the Government where there is no fibre)as he said the goverment have forced them to increase the costs for old lines and move people to NBI network if fibre is unable. My neighbours have fibre. I have a tiled and wooden floor and was told that the new NBI service would mean the engineers would have to come into the house and change the cabling inside the house. I have cat 6 in the house but not fully using it.

The agent said I could register with Eir for NBI when it is rolled out(within the next few months) pay €12 for any time calls and what ever NBI charge. Eir will be the collecting agent for the service. The agent said the NBI could be around €70 a month plus the €12 for calls. €82 per month.

That would be around €164 for 2months! Madness.

Eir are not installing fibre as they said it is too much money in the estate as it is an older estate. The Eir junction box is about 400metres from the house but the cable box in the ground at the path is about 50metres.

The guy was getting annoyed with my questions and said after40minutes I was holding him too long as asking questions he could not answer. I have been through this with Eir so wanted to make sure I have had everything written down and not have to go to the regulator again.

When you look at Eir you will see €39.95 per month off peak calls and broadband. €10 extra for any time calls. I was told i cannot have that as I do not have fibre. What!

I was told they could not supplement my line costs to make it cheaper for me as it costs more to have the line. I have had one call out 9years ago!!

The estate has been taken over for broadband by NBI??

I am trying to keep my household costs down and not increase by double.

What is going on? Any suggestions what to do? I dont need mad speeds for broadband as do not stream that much. Netflix is the most thing I would use and have a basic package.

Dont have Sky Q and do not want that either!

type your eircode in under search availability in your area field at https://nbi.ie/ - what result does it give?

type your eircode also in here, top left at https://openeir.maps.arcgis.com/apps/instant/lookup/index.html?appid=a8fdd9780bd84f0799f99522c48f6e66 - what result does it give

It says it is available within the next 3 months. I did see the engineers ripping up the road at the start of the estate.

I checked eir website and put my details in was offered fibre Price

    €65.98

    After 12 months

    €75.98

    Contract Length

    12 month

I dont want fibre as have no need for the speed. Never had the 9g they mentioned anyway.

I checked through the NBI website and this appeared for Eir. You cannot buy directly from NBI.

    • Eir €49.99 a month for 24 months, €85.99 thereafter
    • Anytime call charges are NOT included in that bill so that is extra.

I do not need fibre. I use the broadband that I have in my house already.
