Reg Plate Damage

Hey guys. I unfortunately hit a phesent on the M8 on Sunday. It took my reg plate with it and caused some damage.

A few questions - can I replace the reg Plate holder cheaply? E.g. aftermarket/generic and not goto Skoda directly.

Where is the best place to get a new reg plate generated?

Is it likely my insurance will cover any cost? (The bumper itself has a small crack)

What happens when I go through a toll, e.g. port tunnel, east link with only a reg plate on the rear of the car - for the moment?

    Thanks for any pointers!

The dealer will probably give you the surround with the plate if they're advertising is on it its not a skoda part it's a generic surround. You can buy a plate at most motor factors . €20 max. No need to involve insurance for such little damage and low cost of replacement

Remember to drill small hole to end of the crack. Otherwise it goes bigger and bigger. Do not drill to the sensor or sensor wires. Not sure what way these locating these, just be careful

Thanks both. And the toll roads?

My partner had her license plate stolen and she got another one online for about 20 euro, you can get number plate screws and caps from halfords, alternatively there's special sticky tape for number plates but the screws will secure it the best.

Not sure about the port tunnel, if its a big concern just call into your local Garda station and explain the situation and they'll tell you if it's okay or not

Normally the cameras on the Westlink can get front and back of the car, but this would only really matter if you do not use a tag.

Why does it matter matter with the others, you pay as you travel

Its definitely not legal to drive without the front plate, odds of getting in trouble though probably vary

If you have a tag you need the number plate because the tag has to match the number plate is my understanding. Otherwise aot of commercial vehicles would be zipping through the fast lane with a private registered vehicle tag. But I could be wrong as lately I've seen alot of medium sized vans using the fast lane. 🤔
