Feeling constantly knocked down

Don’t know where I’m going with this really, just need to vent.

In 2018 I was diagnosed with a long term illness where the aim is lifelong management rather than cure, went through a hard couple of months getting on treatment and tests etc but was warned there was no quick fix so accepted it. Eventually got there and after a year went back to work in an entirely new career, one of those things that something good came out of a bad situation.

Fast forward to last September after nearly 3 good years it basically took a shít in my face and put me in hospital, out of work for nearly a month along with a load of other side effects. After a circle of hell for months adjusting to complications from such a severe infection I had to go on more new medication which has horrible side effects meaning I done so reluctantly in order to get a quality of life again. Been on that for a while and doing ok, starting to look positively forward to a way out of this mess. Then I got Covid.

I just feel like I’m in a circle of health problems that’s never ending, and who knows what’s next

So sorry to hear all that. It’s hard to say anything regarding the medical issues, as they are unknown to us and likely uncontrollable for you. You do seem clued-in though and thoughtful. How is the new career going, are you still enjoying it and are there growth prospects there?

It’s an autoimmune condition affecting my digestive system. Work is great, inlay d out at the very beginning that I had lifelong health problems more for my own benefit because I’m under numerous specialists for different things, even pre last September. I also wanted to try as much as possible for them to know if I’m out sick it’s genuine and to have some protection against disciplinary procedures for being out sick too much of that ever arose. But I would no longer be able to work full time if it wasn’t for that understanding .

somethung else I didn’t mention is I was born with one hell of a rare birth defect and the surgery as an infant to save my life left me partially sighted and with some minor mobility issues I got the job through a scene for college graduates with disabilities having not succeeded at mainstream employment, well it is mainstream but there’s support and understanding there from the outset and your not worried about being judged unfairly. Yes I think there are growth opportunities eventually, it’s a huge global company

    That was a long rant!

I'm really sorry to hear about your troubles. I also have a long term illness, though not the same as yours.

I was at the bottom about ten years ago, and I felt like there was no way out but my life got better and now things are pretty good for me. Not perfect, but good.

I guess I'm saying things can get better. Everyone has a bottom, I think. I hope you feel better soon.

Given the difficult medical hand you’ve been dealt (which you seriously underplayed in your first post, which I respect!), you seem to have made a success of your career. Well it looks like that to me anyway
