New build how to set up TV

Hi folks I've recently built a house and have ran cat 6 and a TV cable to all TV points (4 in the house).

I'm just wondering what are my options in terms of

    1. Getting the Irish channels - what type of aerial do I need and where should I set it up? - is there an option to buy a box like the sky box that records irish TV?

    2. Is it possible to get BBC or utv or other UK channels by buying a satellite rece iver or another aerial and can I set them up easily myself?

Is there anything I need to do from future proofing point of view?

    Thanks!

have you already built the house? best idea is to plan what you want before build. probably use satellite for bbc.

The antenna you would need for Saorview would depend on your general location - where you are in the country would determine what transmitter you point at, then the specific reception signal levels at your location would determine the type of antenna required. Sometimes this might mean you would be ok with a low gain antenna in the attic, or outside, or you might need a bigger (higher gain) antenna.

The UK stations can be easily received on satellite, but you also have a range of options there - Free to air, or Freeview, multiple tuners, recording options etc.

Some basic questions need to be answered first :

Where are you? ... Are you going to use all TV's with Saorview and Satellite tuners built in, or are you going to use combi set top boxes, or will you have TV tuner for Saorview and set top box for satellite only? Do you want recording ability for both Saorview and Satellite?

It sounds complicated, until you specify your requirements - figure that out first and then work on from there.

If you are reasonably technically minded, it is very possible to DIY. There will be plenty of help available on the forum, when you have some specifics about what you are looking for.

Find your nearest recommend saorview transmitter which will determine which aerial type required.

Hi Ger and Cush. Its a new build and Im based in the midlands, Ive checked my coverage and its covered by saorview but there is no specific signal or antennae coming uo its continusly loading on the website the Cush has referenced there. I've checked with my neighbour and he has a small antennae in the attic and has excellent signal.

I have a 2 reasonably new tvs they both have a satellite and saorview tuner. I would like to be able to record on the tv with the uk channels. Do I need to buy a satelite dish or would an old sky dish work I had the SKY Q box working off the dish a few years ago?

one of my TVs has a record function on it so I can record on that at the moment onto a hardrive for my saorview channels does the same principle apply with the satellite channels?

Like i said at the moment I have power and tv cable with cat6 at each tv point andIm wondering how to set everything up.

    Thanks Again

I've just done this in new build, ran 3 x coax from each tv point to central room and put in a patch panel.

Installed a freeview sattelite with 4 x lnb and ran 4 coax from dish back to this room.

Ran 1 x connection from saorview aerial back to this room which is then connected to a 4 x splitter/amplifier (powered). As aerial is in garage a powered variable amp was needed here also.

In main room I have a zgemma h7s box with 2 x sattelite and 1 x tv (saorview) connection. So all domestic irish channels + all fta english channels, film4 etc, major news channels CNN,CNBC,NHK,PBS etc

The 2 additional sattelite connections and tv connections are patched off to various rooms although you can also access the ZGemma box over tcp/ip from laptop, set top android box, phone or tablet around the house ( or remotely via SSH tunnel ).

ZGemma box was about 150eur I think. Very happy with the setup.

    Any questions, let me know

Hi Munsterfan I see you have run 3 coax to each tv point unfortunately my house is plastered and each tv has only one coax, is it possibly to get UK channels to my TV and saorview with just one coaz?

Can you explain to me why you need the zgemma h7s box? is that connceted to the UK channels satellite coax kinda of like the skybox?

What are my options then with one coax cable and 1 cat 6?

    Thanks again

use a tv-lan balun to put saorview on the cat6 cable and use the coax for satellite. you can get them from dipolnet.com. the nice thing is you can still use ethernet but only at 100mb. or you could use coax for saorview and use a sat-ip receiver and use tvs that have iptv on them.

Which transmitter is recommended by the Saorview coverage checker?

The checker will indicate the frequencies used and the polarisation of the aerial, horizontal or vertical.

Two aerial groups are used here, Group A (21-37) or Group K (21-48), around €20 --> SAORVIEW Frequencies Rev2.7 (2rn.ie)

1 of each cable is very limiting, if either cable was damaged somewhere along the route you have no spare.

it is possible to combine the Saorview aerial feed and a single sat feed down a coax cable either via a simple Sat/terrestrial combiner to a single TV point or via a multiswitch (4 sat inputs + aerial input) to multiple TV points

I see you got answered on cables etc, my TV's dont have sattelite tuners so the ZGemma box preforms that function, like a sky box and also allows access via LAN from phones / laptops / tablets etc
