    Hi All

Given the current state of diesel prices would it be worth while converting an older jeep to be a vegitarian ?

ive being doing some research and cant find anywhere that is supplying say pressed rapeseed oil in bulk

although its still attractive given that oil in Aldi is at 1.29 at the moment !

no. check rapeseed oil yields per acre. if it is temporarily attractive it won't be in the long term.

Well I can find it in 5 litre or 20 litre quantities for around a euro per litre but cannot find just a wholesale place, I remember back in the late 2000's there were a few people pressing it and selling it by the 1000 litres or whatever you could carry

other route is to start collecting waste vegetable oil and filter it

If you can find an old fashioned diesel engine and run it only in the fleeting summer you will be doing grand...after you have paid the duties which are legally payable to the Government.

When I has a pajero I was a member in an owners club.

A few lads in the uk adapted their engines (I think it was something to do with adding or moving filters but really not sure) to run on Veggie oil.

The engines ran fine but they ran into difficuties with the law as the oil was classed as a foodstuff and attracted a different rate of tax then fuel.

One of the lads was reported by the supermarket he was buying the oil from ,at that point veggie oil off the shelf was cheaper then diesel, as he was buuying oil in something like 50 ltrs at a time.

Taxation wise its more then likely the same here so not worth attracting the attention of a following garda car who suddenly get the smell of chipper from your exhaust!

Substitute Fuel Used as a propellant instead of diesel €303.77 + Carbon €109.74 = €413.51 per 1,000 litres

So add 41c a litre and the €1.29 becomes €1.70 and then you've to buy the chemicals and kit and the time to processes it.

LPG is still low. Vehicle gas too, is that producer gas ?
